Waihe'e Ridge Trail

GPS: Waihee Ridge Trail, Kahekili Hwy, Wailuku, HI 96793

Driving Directions: To reach the trailhead, take Hwy. 32 west out of Kahului until you reach Hwy. 330- about three miles. Turn right on Hwy. 330 and continue until it becomes Hwy. 340 at mile marker 2. At 9/10 mile past mile marker 6, you'll see the Maluhia Boy Scout Camp on the left. Turn left onto this road and go about 1 mile uphill until you reach a small parking area.

This superb inclined hike beginning at 1,000` elevation climbs the Windward slope of West Maui. Journey through brushy thicket, full of young tree stands and native scrub forest before reaching the top of the trail. At the peak you will be at 2,563` elevation where there is a picnic table to stop take a break and enjoy panoramic views of Wailuku and central Maui, the Kahakuloa slopes, and Mount Eke. As this hike can be pretty intense at times (considered moderate in hiking terms) we recommend you bring water & a lite snack with you in a small backpack and wear close toed shoes. Round trip is under five miles on a wide well maintained dirt and gravel trail. The most intense part of the hike is at the very start, where there is a very steep paved incline that goes on for a little bit. After that, just power through to the end and you will be rewarded with amazing views all the way up. The satisfaction at the end is definitely worth it!

Ps. Please be aware there is limited toilet facilities (a portable at the start of trail) and no services for food or drink nearby. So come prepared and as always please kokua and make sure to not leave any trash behind. Mahalo!
